Located conveniently on 155 Cooweescoowee Avenue West, this vibrant eatery excels at serving up a bold and flavorful menu that pays homage to classic Mexican cuisine while adding its own local twist.
From the moment you step inside, the inviting, casual atmosphere welcomes you with warmth. The interior is clean and comfortable, ideal for both a quick lunch or a laid-back dinner with friends and family. Despite its modest size, Cantina Grill manages to maintain an energetic vibe, reflecting the spirited and genuine nature of its dishes.
The culinary stars here are undoubtedly the street tacos, lauded for their fresh ingredients and naturally gluten-free appeal. Diners like Sandy Wilcox rave about the vibrant flavors “hot, fresh and fast,” with each bite bursting with layers of seasoned meat, crisp vegetables, and tangy salsa. Equally notable are the impressive chimichangas and fajita nachos, praised as “bomb” and “great” by loyal guests, highlighting the kitchen’s skill at balancing texture and flavor.
One cannot miss the innovative veggie griller, a delightful option that brings smoky charred goodness to the vegetarian palate, while the chorizo queso loaded with peppers offers a spicy yet creamy experience that keeps taste buds tingling. The Mustang platter, described as “packed with flavor,” stands out as a hearty feast perfect for those seeking a robust, satisfying meal.
Thirst-quenchers play a strong supporting role here, with their famous sangria margarita winning admiration for its generous pour and perfectly balanced blend of sweetness and citrus notes that elevate every bite of food.
While the food easily earns a glowing reputation, some patrons have noted moments where service can feel a bit inconsistent — with drinks refills and check processing occasionally lagging during busy rushes. However, this minor area of improvement seems outweighed by the genuine friendliness of the staff and the overall welcoming ambiance.
For those traveling through or residing in Oologah, Cantina Grill is a standout destination for anyone craving authentic Mexican flavors served with heartfelt hospitality. Whether you're indulging in classic favorites or exploring their fresh, flavorful specials, this local gem ensures a memorable dining experience that captures the true spirit of cantina cooking.

Love this local Mexican restaurant. Street tacos are amazing and gluten free! They make the best sangria margarita as well! Love the veggie griller too! Hot, fresh and fast!

This was an amazing and tasty lunch. I had the Mustang platter which was similar to one of my all time favorite cantina dishes. It was packed with flavor! Super friendly staff and no long wait for such an amazing meal. If I was forced by gunpoint to pick something out that I had to critique, I'd say the salsa was a bit sweet. But it was still tasty. I'd give the a 6 ⭐ if I could! I'll be eating here again!

Food is good. The chorizo queso with peppers is so good. The place is clean. The service is pretty terrible. No one is rude, the servers just disappear, don’t refill any drinks, chips, salsa. You have to ask for things that should be offered. Takes forever to get the check paid. I hope they learn better service because I want the restaurant to survive.

Cantina Grill, located in the heart of downtown Ooglagah on West Cooweescoowee Avenue. It is easy to find from Highway 169. Just look for the longest street sign. My best guess is that the word is a form of profanity meaning, “something went wrong.” My initial impression of the restaurant prior to the visit, was formed from the menu found on their Facebook page. Queso and lots of it. Available on everything. I didn’t want a plate of queso; so, I went with the fall back, and usually fool proof, carne asada. This is usually a safe selection; like ordering a club sandwich at an unfamiliar diner, when you are not too sure how good the food is. The carne asada was not spectacular, but also not disappointing. Several medallions of very thin lean steak, probably sirloin, well-seasoned, grilled to a char on the outside, with a helping of grilled onions. The beans and rice were fantastic; both flavorful. Cooked by an expert. This is not quite what I would call a standard OkieMex restaurant. Authentic though. It has a smaller menu and a couple of unique menu items. One of them, the Mango Chicken, which my wife ordered. So then, “Mango Chicken.” Not particularly attractive on the plate, but captivating in flavor. She raved about the taste. Strips of wonderfully seasoned grilled chicken breast and shrimp, mixed and grilled with chopped mango, peppers and tomatoes. A mouth filling mixture of flavors. Spice, shrimp, chicken, sweet mango, a little bitterness from green peppers and the tartness of the tomato. Add a side of the tasty beans and rice. She rated the meal very high on her list of favorite Mexican meals, “I would come here again for this Mango Chicken!” The unique and refreshing taste of this is worth a try; unless of course, you have your mind set on a queso smothered something. Good chips and salsa. The salsa picante is brought out in little plastic cups, (individual adult dosage size) with lids, for your safety. Real HEAT! It should be kept in child proof containers. It was good! A jolly, pleasant, friendly, young lady took care of us. Great service. Laid-back small-town atmosphere. Service took a minute after we ordered but it went from us being the only ones in there to packed within 6 minutes of us sitting down, so I think they just got overwhelmed. Our drinks came out fast. The margaritas are HUGE! the food wa delicious, hot and accurate when we got it.
